I would talk to her and make her aware of the low performance, but would tell how much you appreciate her working through her struggles and tell what a good job she is doing and how important she is to the company, let he know that you are there for her and stuff like that. If a person is stressed out and not doing well, threatening them will only make them worse. If you can put her at ease she will feel better and do a better job, and if you gain her confidence she will be willing to do what ever you need her to because you were a friend to her.
